Newfoundland and Labrador, is located on the eastern edge of North America. Historical St. John's is North America's oldest city. Our capital city shares the same latitude as Paris, France and Seattle, Washington. With the North Atlantic at our doorstep we are home to Iceberg Alley. We offer one of the best places in the world to view icebergs and wildlife.
Top 5 Reasons we call Newfoundland “Home”:
1️ - Culture
There are few places in the world that have a broadway musical dedicated to telling the story of their kindness, generosity and hospitality. But Newfoundland does! When 9/11 occured, 17,000 stranded airline passengers in Deer Lake (Newfoundland), found themselves with nowhere to go. It didn’t take long for residents near-by to open their doors for those who had no place to turn!
In recent events, #Snowmeggedon2020 was another situation that taught us exactly what the word “community” means. For Newfoundland it translates to “family.” During this time, we witnessed complete strangers go out of their way for one another, to ensure safety and basic necessities were met.
The only warning we need to give travellers:
“Lock your doors… If you don’t want anyone around for tea.”
And nobody can beat us at a good ol’ kitchen party.
2 - Scenery
Natural rugged shores, thick boreal forests and ancient rock formations. In combination with colorful “Jellybean Row” houses and historic fishing villages.
… There isn’t a more beautiful place to call home!
3️ - Ocean
There is nothing more calming than the sound of the waves crashing against our rocky shorelines, and the salty smell of the sea. One of nature's greatest gifts. Luckily for us in Newfoundland, we’re surrounded!
4️ - Landscape
You can live in the city, and drive just 10 minutes outside of the city to find yourself immersed in another world! Surrounded by nature, taking in the peace and quiet. There’s not too many places in the world that allow you the benefits of both, in such close proximity!
Consider it a FREE mental retreat, whenever you want it!
5️ - Outdoor Adventures
With 200 hiking trails, including the famously-known East Coast Trail with 265kms of rugged, coastal scenery, along 24 connected paths… The adventures never end!
